Why is the C Concourse Expansion Project happening?

The current Spokane International Airport terminal facility is outdated and lacks the ability to add gate capacity to deal with increasing passenger traffic demand at the Airport. To meet the needs of current and forecasted future passenger traffic the Airport has been developing plans to expand and modernize the terminal facility.

What is being added with the C Concourse Expansion Project?

Three new gates will be added to the west side of the Airport’s C Concourse. On the east side of the concourse, the current ground boarding gates will be replaced with three passenger loading bridges and the existing upper C Concourse gates will be upgraded. Additionally, the concourse’s ticket counter area will be extended to provide six additional counter locations for airlines and new exit lane technology will be installed. Furthermore, the project will replace or upgrade aging infrastructure, including mechanical, electrical and plumbing; lighting; gatehold technology; baggage handling systems; restrooms; glazing/curtain wall systems; escalators and elevators.

What are the benefits of the project?

The C Concourse Expansion Project will offer several benefits not only to passengers, but also the region. It will promote economic development, enhance and encourage competitive air service, bring environmental and energy efficient improvements and deliver an upgraded passenger experience.

What new amenities will be available in the new C Concourse?

Along with additional food and beverage and retail outlets, the project will expand accessibility for persons with disabilities with in-floor hearing loops at gates, multi-use information displays with emergency connections, ambulatory stalls in restrooms, companion care rooms with showers and changing stations, nursing mother spaces and improved service animal relief areas.

When is the project expected to be completed?

The C Concourse Expansion Project is expected to be complete in late 2025.

How is the project being funded?

The C Concourse Expansion Project will be funded through a variety of sources, including an $11,000,000 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Airport Terminals Program grant awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration in July 2022. Bonds, CARES federal funds, and Passenger Facility Charge (PFC) funds will also be utilized to pay for the project. No local tax dollars will be used.

What is expected to come in future phases of the TREX Program?

Future phases of the Terminal Renovation and Expansion Program include a Central Hall facility with a centralized TSA security screening checkpoint for all airlines, a post-security hallway connecting the A/B and C Concourses, a consolidated baggage claim, a new Operations Center, improvements and expansion to the A/B Concourse and relocation of the Airport’s rental car facility.

Who is the design architect and general contractor/construction manager of the Concourse C Expansion Project?

The project’s design architect is the Architectural Alliiance International Group, and the General Contractor/Construction Manager (GC/CM) for the Concourse C Terminal Renovation and Expansion (TREX) Project is Garco|QD Builders, a joint venture between Garco Construction and Q&D Construction.
